Put Computer Games in Your Media Mix

by: Alain Thys

If you thought computer gaming was not really something you should include in your mediamix as you don't have a brand that appeals to teenage boys, think again. A recent report by the Entertainment Software Association comes with a few interesting facts:

  • the average age of a gamer is 30
  • the average age of someone actually buying a game is 37
  • 19% of gamers is over 50 years old
  • in the total population the stereotype audience of 6-17 year old boys represent 21% ... women of 18+ represent 28%

As games are one of the fastest growing media categories in the business, and the number of product and brand placement opportunities in the top-selling games is limited, you therefore may want to get in early, regardless of the target audience you're shooting for.
