Why does Wal Mart or Tesco not have a section of their stores dedicated to assistive technologies (i.e. technologies that assist people who have some form of disability resulting from illness or ageing)?
You will find aisle after aisle of baby food and baby stuff but not a single shelf selling magnifying glasses or large screen mobile phones.
Since we all get old at some stage it is strange why the retail sector has not catered for this market. My guess is that ageing, more importantly the effects of ageing, is something we don’t want to be reminded about when we are doing our day-to-day shopping.
Well maybe things are beginning to change. Have a look at these details from AARP about assistive products. It also looks as if Microsoft is getting in on the act.

I like this post. It gave me a good point about assistive tech. I think assistive technologies will be the cross-categories but it would be good to set one. It's interesting.
