This week I was invited to do a presentation on social media for the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). While preparing the slides I thought I'd through in a little extra and added a quickly done tool (I see it as a prototype): A Web2.0 Business Readiness Self Assessment Canvas.
A company can go through the 9 topics (A-I) and rate themselves on a scale from 1 (bad) to 5 (excellent) as to some topics relevent to in the era of social media. Test it below...
I'm also adding the slide deck of the talk on social media, which I structured into 9 trends that give the basis for the self assessment canvas above.
By the way, people were so interested in the Second Life part of the presentation that I switched to an other slide deck about Second Life "en cours de route"...

I liked the "readiness" assessment approach. I would also add... "We are prepared to have an ongoing conversation with our customers." So many companies leverage one web based tool or approach as a way to "push" information out to customers (e.g: a blog or a wiki) and they are often not prepared to have the two-way dialog or listening that is necessary as a result.
