I Blame the Public - the Death of Empathy

As Jessica from PSFK said… “the death of empathy - is anybody else terrified?”. In a word, yes.

As much as I love the web and see it as a positive force overall, it’s undeniably got a dark side. Sometimes the discussions in chat rooms and comments posted in news articles makes me think of the crowds that used to turn up to watch public executions back in the 18th century, viewing it as great entertainment. I can only hope that we’ll make a similar advance in online culture and norms of behaviour, but sadly I think it will take a while yet.
