Enterprise 2.0 and the Concept of Virtuality

by: Idris Mootee

While we we're on the topic of Enterprise 2.0, I remember when Peter Drucker coined the term "knowledge worker" some 15 years ago he was referring to a new class of employee whose basic means of production was no longer making widgets (I don't mean the software widgets, I mean object), but, rather, the effective use of knowledge and creativity. Knowledge worker includes not only the traditional professionals (architects and engineers), but also the creative class and the 'misfits'.

How Will Enterprise 2.0 Transform the Workplace

by: Idris Mootee

A question that I often come across during my conversations with senior executives is "what is the impact of web 2.0 strategies and tools from an enterprise perspective?'  Many have difficulties providing a quick answer while they were quick to provide examples of how Web 2.0 innovation has been creating new applications for consumer uses. by: Idris Mootee

I often get a lot of people asking me"what are the biggest challenges of moving large organizations into an open-innovation zone?" My answer is we need to deal with this on a strategic level. The quick answer is "Size" is the No.1 enemy. Most large organizations still prefer to develop/own those innovations even knowing that the chance for success to do it in-house is much lower. The second reason is, it's not something a division head can do. This has to come from the CEO and the management team to commit to this fundamental shift. They need to admit that their current model is not delivering the needed levels of top line growth and there's a need to innovate and find new ways to create shareholder value

From Ideas to Strategy and Purpose

by: Idris Mootee

A friend of mine called me a few days ago and wanted to talk about his new venture. I am happy for him. No question that it is a big decision in some ways for him. The question came up was "why", is it about money or is it about creating something. What is the strategy?
